Do you know that reflexology was introduced to the United States in 1913 by William H. Fitzgerald, M.D. (1872-1942), an ear, nose, and throat specialist, and Dr. Edwin Bowers. Fitzgerald claimed that applying pressure had an anesthetic effect on other areas of the body.

Reflexology was further developed by Eunice D. Ingham (1899-1974), a nurse and physiotherapist, in the 1930s and 1940s. Ingham claimed that the feet and hands were especially sensitive, and mapped the entire body into "reflexes" on the feet. It was at this time that "zone therapy" was renamed to reflexology, and the number of conditions it was claimed to treat increased.

Reflexology, or zone therapy, is the practice of massaging, squeezing, or pushing on parts of the feet, or sometimes the hands and ears, with the goal of encouraging a beneficial effect on other parts of the body, or to improve general health.

There is no broad consensus on how reflexology does or could work in practice; the one unifying theme is the claim that areas ("lumps" or "grit") on the foot correspond to areas of the body, and that by manipulating these on can improve health through one's qi.

Concerns have been raised by numerous skeptics who fear that treating potentially serious illness with reflexology, which has no proven efficacy, could delay the seeking of help from proven conventional medicine.

Knowing these facts, I finally allow myself to try foot reflexology recently (I never had this before). Lately, reflexology centre’s are growing like mushroom in Miri and I wonder whether all of it are offering genuine reflexology services or there are ‘more’ to expect behind it. You get my drift here?? ;p

I decided to check out a reflexology centre at Imperial Mall shopping mall the other day which was recommended earlier by my friend. The place is located at the first floor facing Blue Café. As it was my first try, so I decided to opt for the cheapest rate and the shortest time as the fear of pain was in my head at that time ehekk… ;p

The process starts by soaking your feet in a basin of warm water for approximately 10 minutes. I guess it must be filled with herbs as I can smell it as I soaked my feet in the basin while watching tv in front of me. I was amazed with the customer services provided. It gives good impression for first timer like me and I liked it. Thumbs up!! :)

Then, they start to massage my left foot. I was nervous at this point as I was afraid that I might start to yell and scream due to the pain but I didn't.

Yet, I let the massage guy (yes, a guy massage me woohooo) to massage me harder. :)

To my surprise, it wasn’t like going through hell of pain and yelling but it was like having the ultimate orgasms’. Serious!!

Pictures above may not able to show you my ultimate orgasms but one can only find out if you give it a try. I paid RM28 for 40 minutes (actually it was 48 minutes, maybe because I was wearing mini skirt that day) and it’s worth it, really!!

Ramadhan Bazaar - Saberkas

As promised, I visited another ramadhan bazaar located at Saberkas on last Friday. Here, there are more choice as compared to the bazaar located near Miri stadium.

The best part is when you get to see delicious, affordable and ready to eat foods.

It's a tradition among the Malaysian to have Ramadhan Bazaar during the fasting month; Miri is not excluded from this. I went to one of the ramadhan bazaar which was setup on a car parking area just next to Miri Stadium.

I'm yet to explore another Ramadhan Bazaar located at Saberkas area. Stay tune. ;)

I'm not sure whether Mirians agree with my statement on this but so far, this is 'THE PLACE' to satisfy your thirst and craving for a great cendol, special and rojak (just to name a few of it).

And I bet most of Mirian doesn't know the name of the shop until you mentioned "Let's go for 'chandut' at Krokop 5".

It wasn't in my plan to 'visit' the place but since I always bring along my digicam, I decided to share my moment with my readers.

Beware of This TorchLight

I received this which was forward by a friend and would like to share it for information purposes.

The email says…

All,
Someone has forwarded me this and it reminded me of what I saw in Miri. It sounds scary but luckily to date we haven’t heard any incident in Miri yet.

I am not sure about if this "torchlight" is available in Miri but I saw the normal handheld high voltage stun guns are openly sold in Miri in those eating places like Hopoh, E-mart and Boulevard Area by the women who walk around selling pirated DVDs. The stun gun or immobiliser can come in all forms e.g. hand phone, pen, torchlight, cigarette box etc. All of them can generate high voltage electric current from few thousand volts or up to 1 M volts!!

The argument that might arise will be, those things are for self-defense and the targeted customers are women. Now, how do we guarantee that the criminal won’t use them for doing something bad?

I really feel uncomfortable about this and so I have called Miri police headquarter (085-433730) and I was told that they will patrol more often in those areas. I’m not yet feeling better for some reasons.

If you see those stun guns being sold openly, please report to the police.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. NO MATTER HOW BUSY YOU ARE, YOU MUST GIVE YOURSELF AT LEAST 3 MINUTES TO READ THIS.

This happened recently in Malaysia's Petaling Jaya.

I just thought to let know what my doctor told me recently. I don't think she was lying and neither am I, so please pass this on to your friends. Her clinic is in SS2 (Petaling Jaya in Malaysia) and you know how congested that place is.

One morning a few months ago in broad daylight, a girl was getting into her car when a few men approached her with what looked like a torchlight. Quite harmless looking. They pressed the 'torchlight' into her back and immediately she went limp and very pale. So she wouldn't be able to fight back, they slashed her thigh with a parang and sped away in her car.

There were many people around and they quickly took her to the nearest clinic which was my doctor's clinic. There were two doctors at that time and they managed to stitch up her wound but the girl remained pulse-less and still pale as paper. No pulse, no BP (blood pressure). Just like dead.

My doctors were confused as to how one wound on the thigh made the girl almost like dead? They managed to revive her and save her life.

After some checking around, the doctors found out what actually happened was that the girl was made unconscious not by a torchlight but actually a high voltage weapon. I forgot how many watts she mentioned. 1000? Anyway, it was high enough to kill a person by electrocution.

It seems this weapon is from China. It's not rampant yet in Malaysia, but with this thing, a person can rob, rape, kill, kidnap, and practically do anything to you. My doctor said that if the girl weren't taken to the clinic immediately she would have died because there was no pulse on her.

So please just beware of your surroundings, if anybody is lurking around with a torchlight-thingy and approaches you, just scream or run away.

Better to be embarrassed than ZAPPED and fried, right?

Finally, I arrive ‘Ipoh’ safely and as promised I’m gonna blog about it.

This kopitiam is located at Lot 1395, Ground Floor, Central Point, Phase 2, Jalan Kabu, Miri, Sarawak.

Well, there is no point of having a cozy environment in a kopitiam without nice foods to offer, right?? The first time I came here, I didn’t manage to try the food as I just had my dinner. I ordered ‘Ipoh Town White Coffee’ and never regretted it. Honestly, that is the best coffee I ever tasted and it’s gonna be my first choice each time I come here. No more Coffee Bean and San Francisco Coffee for me after this. ;p

For coffee lover out there, the ‘Ipoh Town White Coffee’ would be my recommendation if you wish to have coffee. ;)

What would be the best food here?? I would recommend the ‘Ipoh Town Chicken Kuey Teow’. Trust me; you are gonna speechless once you have a sip of the soup. I never tasted such a tasty kuey teow soup in my life until I came to Ipoh Town kopitiam.

Updates on Free Wi-Fi Services in MIRI

This is an update on my previous post.

Below is a brief intro on the company that provide such service;

Danawa Resources Sdn. Bhd. is the first and only Internet Service Provider in Sarawak to offer ubiquitous Wireless Internet connectivity in the resort city of Miri with the launch of the DeConnexion WiFi service. The company has set up Wi-Fi "Hotzones" throughout the city centre in the first phase of its rollout plan. Additional Hotzones will be set up over the next few months to provide at least 80% wireless coverage of Miri city. The suburbs of Miri will also be covered in subsequent deployments.

Snatch Theft on Rampant

Crimes happen everywhere at anytime regardless which part of the world you are at. I’m not discouraging others to visit Miri but what I’m about to post here is more on alerting public out there especially to Mirians as these incidents happened in Miri itself.

I received the news via email and it’s not about ‘broadcasting’ to the whole world on the incident that has happened to the respective victims but the message here clearly enough to keep us alert at all times if possible.

The victim names are purposely remain anonymous for security reasons and what matter the most here, we as the readers especially the ladies to be extra careful at all times as snatch thief is on rampant!!!

It’s started with this email forwarded by a concern husband to his circle of friends;
“Hi all,

Just wanna share a real experienced on above captioned with you all, especially the ladies.

Last Saturday after work, i was fetching my family members and parked my car at the roadside at the main entrance of the Imperial hotel. I was then parking behind another car while waiting for them to board. As my MRS was opening the front passenger door to enter the car, a car came from behind, so close was the car to her that the driver can even protrude his hand from his car and grabbed my MRS handbag and dragged her on the road for about 12feet as she clunged strongly and franticly onto her handbag. Realizing the danger that she can be dragged underneath the car, she let go and her handbag and all personal effects is a foregone history!

Anyway, upon reporting at the police station, we heard a common sigh among the officers, "He's doing it again!" when we told them the description of the car which is a proton wira, dark grey/green color and tinted glass. The driver is donning a baseball cap. Indeed, handbag snatching has happened a couple of times last week and description of the car used is same/similar.

It happened lightning fast and you don't even think of identifying the car plate number. Some victims have noticed the plate number, but upon checking by the police it's found to be false.

Lesson learned.

1. Ladies, always sling your handbag on your opposite side of in-coming or back-coming traffic (Above experienced is back-coming traffic).

2. Be alert on any vehicles/motorbikes/person that's close enough to cause you even with the slightest suspicion or inconveniences.

Ladies, beware! Don't be in the eye of the snatcher!

A friend of mine had a similar incident last Saturday infront of Grand Palace! Also, by a car.....but she managed to set the thief up and he got caught by the police on Sunday when he met up with her to sell her handphone back to her!!! No joke!!!!

Anyways, ladies, do becareful of your handbags....

On the 24th June 2007, the email below forwarded by the same fellow lady friend;
“Dear Friends,

I had a traumatic experience last night whereby my handbag was snatched from my car last night!!!!! Exactly 1 week after Thia's experience at the same area!! I parked infront of Servay (Pelita Commercial Centre), facing the mainroad. When I got into the car, someone just came in from the passenger side and took my handbag with handphone, IC, licence, credit cards, atm cards etc....It happened lighting fast and I didn't have time to react nor knew how he looked like! Next thing I realised, he was running away towards the grassy area near the roundabout and then disappeared.

I frantically came out from my car looking for my friend who was driving away. There were other people around too, and 3 girls also even saw him running away. But nobody had a good look at him. So no suspect!

Lodging a police report was a nightmare. was so confused and scared. Anyways, bottom line is nothing could be done as there weren't any useful fingerprints on the car handle plusI didn't know how he looked like.

Gosh, never had I imagined that something like this would happen to me!!!

So friends, please be extra careful! Not just whilst walking, but getting into the car.
If you're driving alone, please make sure that your friend can walk you to the car, and do have a good look before getting into the car (my friend's car was parked nearby, so I thought it was ok for me to get to my car safely, since he could see me walking towards it fine. However, only the drivers side view was clear, hence the incident)

Once in the car, lock your doors immediately! I normally would lock my doors as soon as I get in....but I guessed I wasn't fast enough!!!

When lodging police report, if it's a snatch, theft etc...do lodge it as "Siasatan"...not "Dokumen". If it's Dokumen, it won't go into the statistics, as it's only documented as "tercicir"!

My dad reminded me that it's better that I don't drive alone late at night, it's best to take a lift from someone.

Gosh, I still have chills thinking about it.....but Thank God that I wasn't hurt, my house keys weren't inside the handbag and that it didn't happened before getting into the car as my car keys would have been inside!

Tomorrow, I'd need to go and sort out all the card replacements and police report. Oh yes, please give me your contact numbers again. :(

“Hello Ladies...

It’s so scary to hear all the stories about the bag snatching cases in Miri. I have been to the hospital lately to visit my grandma and next to her is a patient of a recent bag snatching case as well. She was walking outside of Boulevard and all of a sudden a motorcycle with 2 guys tried to snatch her bag from her. She was clinging on to her bag and was dragged by the motorcycle. Now, the poor lady can't walk at all because both of her legs are broken and she has metal sticks sticking out of her legs! It looks horrifying.

So do be careful out there ladies. It’s not nice to hear that Miri is changing into an unsafe place to stay...sigh...

Miri International Jazz Festival 2007

The Miri International Jazz Festival swings back into this northern city of Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo for the second year unning from the 11th –12th May, 2007. The exciting Lluis Coloma from Spain will be bringing back his boogie woogie wizardry on keyboard to remind returning festival goers the exciting and fun atmosphere of the inaugural event.

‘The 2007 edition is Sarawak Tourism Board's contribution to Visit Malaysia Year 2007; Celebrating 50 years of Nationhood’ campaign, enthused the Chairman of the Festival, Michael Lu. He added that the venue would still be the Pavilion, ParkCity Everly Hotel.

Tickets will be sold at selected outlets to be announced at a later date. The prices of tickets are; RM50 for a one-night pass and RM90 for a two-night pass. Children below the age of twelve will be charged RM25 and RM45 respectively.

The Miri International Jazz Festival 2007 is organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board in collaboration with a select group of individuals from both private and public institutions.

Siamese Secret

I've been here few times and only last night, I managed to capture my 'moments' at Siamese Secret. It's a nice place to hang out where the place offer air conditioned restaurant concept with a mini bar and also out-door concept with wooden concrete tables placed outside which I find suitable for 'business talk', family events or even dating outings. :)

Those who likes cozy and comfortable environment to enjoy your meal or want some privacy, you can consider having your meal inside the restaurant.

Those of you who enjoy outdoor environment, you may choose to hang out outside the restaurant where wooden concrete tables are provided plus with some palm trees placed as decorations. Sorry guys, I don't have any pictures to show it to you as I forgot to take some snaps of it hehehe...;p

For your information, Siamese Secret provide wi-fi services to their customer and this is something unique as some of the restaurants in Miri does not offer the service except in hotels.

Excuse me for not able to provide you the premise address (as what I normally do) as I was in a rush to go home due to some unforseen emergency. However, to find this place is pretty easy and the best way to describe the location is Siamese Secret located behind Pacific Orient Hotel. They operates for lunch from 12noon to 3pm and in the evening from 6pm to 5am. :)

I'm sure most of Mirians knows the location and those of you who are from outside Miri, do feel free to ask for some guidance on the place should you wish to drop by to check out this place in the future. :)

The Island 'FaceLift'

I went to The Island last week end and I was amazed with the new changes. Now, it's more spacey especially the entrance area.

As you walked through the entrance, you'll get to see hanging Red Indian Apache on the wall on your right.

With nice music playing in the air, as you walked inside, it really make you feel that you are walking through a pier to the beach. Especially when you are seating at the bar counter and enjoy looking at the sea shells through the 'see-through' bar.

I remember in my last posting about the Island, I did mentioned that it would be rude of me to take snaps of the premise toilet. But this time round, I just can't help myself as it was totally a 'make-over' decorations. I feel like enjoying my drink in the toilet hehehe...

Oh by the way, you can only see those masks in the female toilet hehehee.. ;p

My favourite item would be the light house. It's so so damn cute... ;)

So, those of you out there, if you have not seen the new look of The Island, do drop by one of this days. And for those of you who have not been here, do check it out.

For your information, The Island offers 'Happy Hour' all night long on every Monday. However, their 'Happy Hour' starts from 3pm - 9pm during normal days.

For margarita's lover, they have 'Margarita Nite' on every Tuesday. Buy 2 margarita FREE 1 margarita and you can also opt for 1 Jug of Margarita just for RM50 only. Great deal here peeps.. ;)

Lift Ban On Firecrackers

I stumbled upon a letter to the Borneo Post editor this morning.

My 2cents point of view on this is why the government are looking into banning the fireworks & firecrackers at the first place?? What has initiated them from doing so?? From what I know is simply because more and more people especially teenagers 'hurting' themselves each time the festive seasons approaching.

Been raised up in a mixed cultures (Chinese & Kenyah), celebrating the Chinese New Year with firecrackers & fireworks is a 'MUST' for every families. It's the CULTURE!! And I find it awkward if there's no sound of firecrackers when it come to celebrating the Chinese New Year especially when the clock struck exactly at 12 o'clock in the midnight. :))

However, things begin to change as time goes by. And this beautiful culture is slowly dying due to some irresponsible 'breed of teenagers' nowadays being 'over-creative' in modifying or even inventing a new version of 'explosive'. And as they are not 'well equiped' with the right knowledge, the teenagers would either lost their 'sight', lost their 'arms' or even their 'legs' and most of those who are 'injured' are non Chinese. :(

It's a sad thing but that's the truth.

As a humble Mirian, I'm just hoping the government would not impose any ban on the firecrackers thingy. There's a lot of factors to be considered and I wish to see the culture goes on for our next generation to treasure.

San Francisco Coffee

It's been a while since my last 'visit' to San Francisco Coffee. It's located ground floor within M Square Shopping Complex's premise and sad to say whether San Francisco Coffee will still stay there due to 'slow' business within that area.

Anyway, not for me to worry. ;p

I noticed San Francisco is busy decorating their premise in conjunction of upcoming Chinese New Year and Valentine Day. Oh well, everyday is a valentine to me... ;p

Help, helpp....I'm stucked in this red mug ;p

I just couldn't help myself swallowing my saliva looking at those cakes on display. Lucky I have the strength to stop myself from eating all of those cakes as 'Mimi's' shadow in Drew Carey's Show keep on 'waving' at me in my head. ;p

I just love the cheese cakes.. :))

Went here with my friends just to chill out and choose to sit at the open air area underneath the red canopy. Actually, we wanted to contribute extra community services by 'fogging' the mosquitos away...hehehe...;p

Though I'm a coffee lover but that day, I decided to drink green tea and few pieces of Almond Crisp Biscuits. Nyam nyam nyammmmy.... :))

My friend had a 'filled croissant' which sounds like 'Turkey'... ;p

For those of you who are newcomer to Miri, I'm proud to announce that Miri has a San Francisco Coffee like other major cities in Malaysia. ;)

2020 Cafe

No offend to others but to me, 2020 Cafe so far is the best place where I wanna have my 'dim sum' or in other word 'chinese dumplings'.

Coming here alone, with friends, with your family or with your loved one, it would be THE place to mingle around or enjoyed the food or even enjoyed the 'scene' of people quequing for their turn to have a table.

When it comes to Saturday & Sunday, the cafe will be 'FULL HOUSE' till the extend some 'die hard fan of dimsum' willing to wait next to their 'targetted table'.

I usually get irritated when this happen to me as such gestures in-directly telling me to eat fast like 'Speedy Gonzales'...;p

To those of you who are quite concern on cleanliness, this cafe has been graded as 'Grade B' by the Miri City Council.

Came here last weekend with my girlfriends and glad to share with you all on the food we've ordered. ;)

For those of you who never been here, it's one of the best golf club in Malaysia and I'm proud of it simply because it's located at my hometown - Miri.

I went to Eastwood Valley Golf Club last week end. Been here several occasions so decided to blog about this place. ;)

Soon as I entered the main building, the lobby has been decorated with tanglungs. This is a common scenario especially when it comes to festive season in Malaysia as the Chinese New Year is just round the corner. Even the shopping malls & hotels in Miri are heavily decorated in conjunction of this upcoming festival.

I'm not a golf's fan so you can't expect much from me. Perhaps, one of this day, I would get an 'invitation' to play golf with the club members and I can 'blog' more about golf here. Keeping my finger cross on this. ;p

Anyway, back to my 'exploration'. I didn't know EastWood Valley Golf Club has won a prestigous award till I saw this placed at the main lobby entrance.

For those who likes to purchase some 'golf goodies', you can just drop by at the Pro Shop located on the right hand side of the lobby. Sorry guys, I wasn't allowed to take pictures in there so if you are curious to find out, feel free to drop by to check it out. ;)

The 'waiting area' at the lobby is quite cozy. Located in front of the restaurant. It has a big plasma tv to 'entertain' you. Nice view too as it was facing the 'Musical Corridor'.

For those who likes to have their functions in a different way, you can organise it at 'Musical Corridor' as a change. The 'Musical Corridor' is basically a 'function room' complete with a stage which built on a floating platform floating on their man-made lake which is attached to the main building. Pretty cool hahh..;)

Apart from being a golf club, there are few chalets provided here as well. You can check the price out by giving them a call and what I heard the club offers quite reasonable & competitive price like other hotels available in the city. The club has it's own health centre and sauna too.

For a change, being an adventurous person, my friends and me decided to try the foods provided here. So, we ordered this and that and guess the price that we had to pay for all these....

We only pay RM23. Surprise??!! Gotcha!!! Hahahaha...

Actually, one of my friend got a 'free meal voucher' worth RM100 which she won during the New Year Eve countdown at the club. And the RM23 is just the topup amount as our order exceeded the free meal voucher value.

Once you step in, you would get the 'feel' of being stranded on an island.

You can see what a beautiful beach (drawn on the wall) awaits you ahead, you can see few stingrays swimming near you (stingrays are placed on the wall for deco purpose) , you'll notice the tables and the chairs are made from bamboo and neatly tied with rope (that is if you choose to sit at the side-walk lane) , you'll also see plenty of sea shells on the sand (on the 'see-through' counter bar) and you'll get to ship sailing along the wall. ;)

Oh before I forget, I like the toilets!! Why? It's the most creative decorated toilet I ever see in Miri perhaps in Sarawak!! Check it out yourself if you don't believe me. Seriously....

To me, it is 'THE' place where you can chill out after hours office, meeting up your clients for discussion, sealed a business deal and even a cool place for dating. Most of all, a place where you can relax your mind and enjoy your drink with wines and cocktails. Oh ya, not forgetting the music on the air.

My friends and me always end up going for 'custom make' cocktails (purposely give Fabian a hard time but he's damn good) as the ones in their menu doesn't meet our likings.

That simply because we are 'adventurous' & 'crazy' people....wooohooo....

Society wakes up too late

Last week, a Primary Six pupil named Daniel commited suicide because his family could not afford to pay his school fees. Thus, this case has 'attract' Mirians especially the relevant authorities. However, being a playful boy himself, Daniel has a unique liking - 'likes to play with ropes' (as per told by his mother).

But then again, based on the chronical of the incident, Daniel did request for financial aids for his school fees from his several family members including his father (who had 'abondoned' them) before the freak accident happen.

My conclusion - out of frustration & desperate, he decided to end his misery by hanging himself. :(

Today's paper (The Borneo Post - front page) Andreas (Daniel's elder brother) mentioned that his family did seek for assistance from the relevant government agencies for financial aids due to their family background income but their requiest always turned down.

He also said "It takes one life for help to reach us. Now, everyone wants to help. But it is too late for my dear brother. I guess this tragic death 'awakens' everyone."

Sad isn't it? I couldn't agree more on that Andreas...you said it all.

In today's paper another 'nearly similar incident' happened.

A Form 5 student of SMK Marudi tried to commit suicide by downing 50 Bent Olin pills. The reason - she was been refused by her school to become a boarder. Caroliza of Rumah Randi Sg. Brit, Marudi commuting to school 30km each day from her longhouse. The girl survived as her family members managed to rush her to the hospital.

I begin to wonder what makes our children nowadays choose or even think to opt for 'commit suicide' when they find they couldn't handle pressures. Blame it on their parent?? Blame it on the 'system'??

To the relevant parties, what sort of 'qualified criteria' allows those who need assistance to be 'entertained'?? How long does it take??

Yes it's true...we always take things for granted in life. We will only know it's too late when damage has been done. :(

SMK ST. JOSEPH MIRI

SMK St. Joseph, Miri is one of top five secondary schools in Miri apart from Kolej Tunku Haji Bujang, Sekolah Menengah Sains, SMK Lutong & SMB St. Columba. These schools are well known not only in terms of it's academic excellent results but also 'extra-va-ganza' popularities in their school extra co-curricullar activities.

Recently, SMK St. Joseph, Miri has brought pride to Malaysia, Sarawak and Miri in particular.

The marching band of SMK St. Joseph, Miri made it to Hong Kong against all odds and the trip was worth it for they brought back not one gold but TWO!!!

The band gave a PERFECT performance in the 'HONG KONG MARCHING BAND FESTIVAL 2006' held in Hong Kong on Christmas day and the school was pronounced the gold cup winner for 'THE BEST PERFORMANCE'.

Barely had they regained their composure, the school was again pronounced the gold cup winner for the being the 'OVERALL CHAMPION' for the competition.

BRAVO!!!!

For your information, the event itself drew 26 teams from Hong Kong, China & Malaysia and the venue was at Hong Kong Queen Elizabeth Indoor Stadium with a capacity crowd of 3,600 and the competition tickets was sold out months in advance. Wwooowwww........;)

SMK St. Joseph's entrance was a total difference as it was led by a traditional Sarawak native dance - The Friendship Dance. It set the scene for a spectacular performance by the main marching band which belted out six memorable tunes synchronised with breathtaking formation that brought the capacity crowd to their feet.

The Principal of SMK St. Joseph said the invitation was extended to the school after it was declared the winner during the Merdeka Parade in Kuching. And it was informed that the team has been invited to the next competion to be held in Beijing in Oct 2007 by the Beijing Association of Drum Band of Chinese Young Pionneers.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MARCHING BAND OF SMK ST. JOSEPH, MIRI!!!!

Technical description of the location would be it's located above Chop Yun Fat (electric appliance shop) behind M2 building aka M Square shopping complex. Or another easier way to spot it, Apple Lodge is located next to it. ;)

Went there with my group of friends for dinner. It's a dinner gathering with Aung , our Myanmese ex-colleague who now working in Canberra, Australia soon after he completed his studies there. He came back all the way from Australia simply because he miss Miri so much.

I've been to Hot Spot Bistro & Bar quite number of times and the food are not bad too. Few occasions, you'll get to see some came here to celebrate their birthday or anniversary parties here. The place even have air conditioned area for such occasions and some even choose to have their functions at the non air conditioned area as it has better view.

The non air conditioned area kinda offer 'balcony' view as the bar & bistro is located at the corner of the shopbuilding. Again, it's a good choice of place for those who likes to do 'fogging' hehehe...you know what I mean here..;p

Not forgetting, this bar & bistro has got it's recognition from Miri Municipal Council so those of you who are 'hygiene freak', you are at the right & safe place.

Hot Spot Bistro & Bar offers western & eastern foods. My favourite dish here is the Grilled Chicken Chop with mushroom sauce. I always ask for extra mushroom sauce. Sorry guys, the food was nearly finished when I realised I have not taken any snap of it so exxxxxccuuseeeeeee me...;p

Sultana Cafe

How many of you been to Sultana Cafe?? I betcha some of you Mirians had never been there too huhu... ;p I've been here quite numerous of time and definitely will keep on coming back.

Those of you who wanna have cozy, relaxing, air conditioned environment, you can enjoyed this in the cafe itself. I recommend this for 'family people' or those who wanna have some privacy. It has 'side-walk' concept too where you get to sit outside the cafe and enjoyed the surroundings. This is suitable for those like to 'cuci mata' and 'polluted' the air like me...mmmuuehehehe ;p

Sultana Cafe is located at Pelita Commercial Centre area. You can find this place in between of Crescendo Bar and Apple Lodge. Or another easy way to find it, Sultana Cafe is located exactly in front of Base Camp which is next to Chaplin Bar (popular bar known among the expats in Miri).

Ask any Mirians, you'll not get lost finding this place. And if you feel that it is not convincing enough, ask them for Cheeries Berries Club and for all you know, you would be standing right in front of Sultana Cafe hehehe... ;p

Honestly, I'm not trying to promote Sultana Cafe or even being paid to do so. Just wanna share something that I find unique about this cafe. I think this is the one and the only 'kedai makan' that serves Bario rice. What is so special about Bario Rice???

It has the same look but different taste

Bario Rice has this unique rice fragrance & taste which is totally different than the normal commerical rice that you ever ate before. Not only it has unique fragrance & taste but the size of the rice is much smaller than normal rice size. Plus it is planted at the highland, showered by the cold weather in Bario - that's how it get its name. Some farmers from the 'low-land' tried to plant the Bario rice, no doubts it grows well but it doesn't have the same qualities of the original Bario rice.

One of the speciliaty - Nubak Layak (consist of mashed Bario rice which is nicely wrapped, local version of porridge, fried dried meat, dried fish meat & local jungle vege - this all made the Kelabit styles)

Recently, my friends and me went for dinner at Sultana Cafe and I managed to take some snaps of the food. Basically, you can opt for West or East foods here...how does it taste?? As for me, it offer more or less the same taste as other cafes in Miri (I'm not a fussy eater, anything that can be eaten, it taste good to me) but what I liked the most about this place is the BARIO RICE!!!

I ordered for coffee after having this meal and this is one of the best coffee I ever tasted. Seriously...

And there's nothing better, taking a 'snap' with the owner of Sultana Cafe, Arthur the DirtyAngel....well, 'almost' the owner of the cafe..hehehe... ;p

Palliative Day Care Centre

It was small, simple yet very cozy...definitely fit the description of a day care centre. It has a small office room, a small pantry room and a living room just nice to accommodate 3 or 4 patients.

The objective of the visit was for us to better understand palliative care and the centre's effort in introducing their home programme in Miri. During the hour-long interactive session, we explored the centre's needs and how the University can assist in meeting some of the needs.

Our group consist of Curtin Volunteers, lecturers & Dr. Mieke (in orange shirt)

Before I summarise these needs, let me just briefly summarise the centre's set-up and services.

What is Palliative Care?
Palliative Care is about looking after and caring for the terminally ill patient and their loved ones. Palliative care neither hastens death nor prolongs life. It merely allows the patient to live life to the fullest possible until their last moments.

The Palliative Care Home Program
The program began in Oct 2005 to provide care and support for any patient living in or around Miri who has advanced, incurable cancer. A primary carer must be available at home to look after the patient as they are only a support service. The services offered are free of charge.

What do they offer

Home visit by fully qualified Nurse focusing on adequate pain and symptom control.
Further regular home visits to ensure patient and care-givers are coping with the progressive illness.
Free loan of medical equipment when needed.
Advice on issues about death & dying.
Telephone support line.
Day Care Centre - open every Tuesday morning for social activities. Transport also available if required.

The Background of Palliative Care Home Program, Miri

Operates under the umbrella of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia. It was initiated by the Palliative Care Committee, Miri Hospital & Dr Mieke van de Leemput on 17th Oct 2005.

The Day Care Centre was officially opened by YB Lee Kim Shin on 13th Jan 2006. The Day Care Centre is open every Tuesday from 9am - 11.30am & managed by Jenny Trupp & Vimala Sangari, coordinated by Teresa Wong (Nurse Coordinator).
